Chapter 5 Connected Educator

Chapter 5 of "The Connected Educator" by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach was about online learning tools and what they entail. The chapter mentioned blogs, podcasts, microblogs such as Twitter, wikis, and accompanied tools such as google docs. It highlighted how each type of internet tool is used and how they can impact learning. The chapter also examined tagging and how it is useful on many different social media sites. I feel that this chapter was very important because we as people nearly depend on the internet for our lives to function with ease and the way society is moving we are demanded to use it. Most people are inseparable from the internet and social media and for good reason. The internet makes life easier due to the fact that you can learn almost anything on it. With the internet and applications being such useful tools they will most definitely coincide with my future career as an educator. Wanting to be an educator I will certainly be using online learning tools, blog sites, and applications such as google docs. As an educator, I will have to be open to learning but also open to new strategies of teaching my students. I can use the internet to communicate with other veteran educators as well as sharpen my own knowledge on particular subjects. With all of these social media applications and online tools being great benefits what are some of the negative impacts of using them too much?
