The Internet Is a Dangerous Place

The Internet Is a Dangerous Place Click here to view my Screencast-O-Matic on social media etiquette in which I used Shaquille O'Neal as my example. My project was based around NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal when he posted a side-by-side image of him making a face with another person who suffers from a rare genetic disorder. Watch a quick video  here  for a quick understanding of what has happened. This occurred in 2014 and although it was an awful thing to do the big man Shaq had a great enough reputation that it has already been swept up in the past. He posted a tweet explaining that he called and personally apologized to Jahmel Binion and although he issued an apology he was later taken to court. Social media can be great for many reasons but when people decide to use it for the wrong reason feelings can be hurt and reputations can often be damaged. Shaquille O'Neal is an icon of the NBA not only due to his accolades as an athlete but, also for his appearances in mo

Chapter 4 The Connected Educator

Image
Chapter 4 of "The Connected Educator" by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach had a specific focus on the benefits of collaboration along with information about creating healthy relationships with others. Collaboration is extremely important as multiple minds are always better than one. In fact, I would argue that one of society's greatest feats is collaboration, and examples are laid out in history. Everday whether you realize it or not you are very likely to collaborate with another no matter who you are. Collaboration is not only the key to completing tasks but also for brainstorming and finding the greatest solutions through debate. This is a skill I will need to improve on as my future career as an educator can greatly benefit from it. I will not only need to collaborate with other educators but also my students so that I can not only educate them but also become a greater educator myself. There are four steps to collaboration that will increase its effectiveness and these are for

Chapter 5 Connected Educator

Image
Chapter 5 of "The Connected Educator" by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach was about online learning tools and what they entail. The chapter mentioned blogs, podcasts, microblogs such as Twitter, wikis, and accompanied tools such as google docs. It highlighted how each type of internet tool is used and how they can impact learning. The chapter also examined tagging and how it is useful on many different social media sites. I feel that this chapter was very important because we as people nearly depend on the internet for our lives to function with ease and the way society is moving we are demanded to use it. Most people are inseparable from the internet and social media and for good reason. The internet makes life easier due to the fact that you can learn almost anything on it. With the internet and applications being such useful tools they will most definitely coincide with my future career as an educator. Wanting to be an educator I will certainly be using online learning tools, blog s

Smackdown

The app I chose is called Zoom and I'm sure many of my classmates are familiar with it because of its rising popularity. Zoom is an application that can be installed on many different devices and is used as a video conferencing tool. There are however a few things that set zoom apart from other conferencing apps. The first aspect of a zoom that I enjoy is the easy-to-use interface. I was able to fully understand the app the second time using it which is always a plus. Zoom also has great tools that can be used within the app. These tools include a share screen option, record meeting option, live chat, contacts, live video, live audio, and even a raise hand feature.      With all of these tools being easily accessible to users and the rise of the pandemic this app has become very popular. It seems that currently many schools across the globe have been using it as well as other professions such as doctors and people in the business world. I will surely have to use this in my fut

Chapter 6 The Connected Educator

Image
Chapter 6 of "The Connected Educator by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach is about how to create an online digital community and what to be aware of. This chapter goes in-depth to explain the use of certain apps and how to screen for people to join the digital community. It is important to check users' accounts for material posted, network activity, the number of posts, and checking for their names before following them to decrease the amount of junk within a feed. I believe this information will aid me in my future career as a teacher because I will need to understand how to successfully create a digital community to teach and learn at the same time. One thing that I really took from this chapter was that it mentioned being more of a learner than a teacher when on the internet. This really spoke to me because it is important to always want to learn and to be open to learning from various people in various locations. This chapter mentions that two people have differing opinions on what t
